Anime on Ice
OngoingDiane and Sabina are on a mission to create anime adaptations on ice. Our goal is to translate meaningful messages from anime into performances that both anime and skating fans can ponder and enjoy. Check out some of our past figure skating routines here!

Unravel (version 2)
October 2023We have all, at some point in our lives, experienced self-discovery and self-doubt. We seek answers to our inner thoughts and emotions, learn things about ourselves that we are initially afraid to believe, and hopefully come to embrace a truer version of ourselves. Skating to a song called "Unravel" from the anime Tokyo Ghoul, Diane and Sabina journey on the oftentimes scary, yet invigorating path towards self-acceptance.
What is your passion?

Lit
March 2023Skating to the song “Lit” from the film A Silent Voice, this program follows a girl with emotional scars who wavers between longing for human connection and the fear of getting hurt again. Together, the group hopes to portray a heartfelt story about coping with loneliness, building trust, and finding where we belong.
Silhouette
December 2022Diane and Sabina are back with another installment of Anime on Ice, this time teaming up with Flora and Erina! As we embark on new journeys, people who are integral to our life today may fade into the shadows of our world tomorrow. "Silhouette" from Naruto embodies the ephemeral nature of connections we have with others. We hope that this fast-paced program captures the surreal feeling of watching people come and go in our lives.
Grand Escape
March 2022Inspired by the film Weathering with You, the story of “Grand Escape” begins with a girl who has the special ability to bring happiness to those around her. At first, everyone is excited, but soon, excitement turns into expectations, and then into crippling dependence. What happens when a superpower proves to be both a blessing and a curse?
Bye Bye Yesterday
December 2021Diane and Sabina are excited to be back at MIT for this show with a delayed graduation program! They will be performing their sixth Anime on Ice duet to the song "Bye Bye Yesterday" from the anime Assassination Classroom. They hope you enjoy this program about the craziness of growing up, graduating, and entering adult life.
One Step Closer
December 2019Overcoming challenges requires healing the pain of the past, as well as growing from the burdens of the present. It can be extremely discouraging because results are often unnoticeable when we are most desperate to see them. However, we must believe that each step taken will lead us in a better direction. Skating to a song called “One Step Closer” from the anime Fruits Basket, Diane and Sabina acknowledge that healing is hard and growth is gradual, but despite any discouraging moments, we are strong enough to keep moving forward, one step at a time.
Barricades
March 2019Sometimes we may feel surrounded by walls that prevent us from living on our own terms. For Sabina, it's finding her passions in the face of personal and societal expectations. For Diane, it's being able to care for the people she loves without losing herself. For Flora, it's self-doubt and fear that she's not enough. Their piece, set to the song “Barricades” from the anime Attack on Titan, is about finding the courage and motivation to break through these walls and live free.
Together from Afar
March 2019To wrap up the exhibition, we have a group closing number to the song, "Together from Afar", from the animated movie, How to Train Your Dragon 3. We'd like to say farewell to the seniors who are graduating as well as those who are leaving MIT, and thanks to everyone who watched our spring exhibition!
Matrix
March 2018Is MIT actually the Matrix? We are each Neo, entering the institution innocent and ignorant. The evil agents manifest themselves as psets and exams. Our inspirational peers are the embodiment of superhuman comrades, and we grow and graduate as superhuman as Neo. This number is inspired as much by our own experiences at MIT as by the film 'The Matrix,' and is dedicated to all of you who were bold enough to take the red pill and seek the truth.
Justice
March 2018Representing the MIT Figure Skating Club, Sabina took 3rd place in the Senior Ladies Short Program at Carnegie Cup 2018. The competition was hosted by Carnegie Mellon University as part of the US Northeast Intercollegiate Figure Skating Team Competition. Sabina skated to "The System Holds Justice at Gunpoint" by Yugo Kanno, from the Psycho Pass OST.
King
March 2018Skating to the song "King" by Lauren Aquilina, this piece expresses the difficulties of overcoming trials and believing in oneself. This was the first time Sabina performed a solo since 2014. Special thanks to Diane Zhou, Elin Schran, the MIT Figure Skating Club, and her friends, for believing in her, even when she didn't have the strength to believe in herself. Thanks everyone for encouraging her to proudly skate once more.
Psycho Pass
March 2018We each view the world through our own lenses, shaped by our personal experiences and the stories we hear. Is there a universal moral compass that we can use to judge others and ourselves, or are we doomed to face conflict when we meet people too different from us? Skating to the main theme from the anime Psycho Pass, Diane and Sabina present their fourth duet together, exploring the difficulty of understanding and accepting one another.
Dragon Night
December 2017 Everybody has their own version of what's just.
Maybe war is something that is natural for us.
But even the people that fill me with hate.
Have their reasons to live their life that way.
~ "Dragon Night" by Sekai no Owari
Nirvana
December 2017In the grind of everyday life, expectations and uncertainty weigh us down. Sometimes they overwhelm us so much that we can’t enjoy life for fear of disappointing ourselves and the people we care about. Skating to a song called “Nirvana” from the anime Noragami, Diane and Sabina seek moments of bliss in the face of doubt and anxiety by learning to appreciate the present, despite worries for the future.

Friend A
December 2016Friendships come and go, each shaping us in different ways. Some leave us with fond memories, others with tough lessons. Perhaps the most special friend is the one who lifts us up during our darkest hours. Skating to “Friend A” from the anime, Your Lie in April, Diane and Sabina express a friendship built not only on blissful moments, but also on supporting each other through difficult times.
